Tax Issues

All real property is required to be appraised at its actual value. Agricultural land is valued at 80 percent of its actual value. Personal property that is used in a trade or business and is depreciable is subject to tax at its “net book value.” All other personal property is exempt from taxation. The 2006 tax rate at the industrial zoned land outside the city limits is $1.62 per $100 of actual value in District 1.

Albion has a 1.5 percent city sales tax which became effective July 1998, with 25 percent of the funding going toward economic development. In 2006, the Albion Fire Department was successful in adding a 0.5% city sales tax to build a fire station, help with maintenance expenses of that building and large equipment purchases for 10 years.
